The Korean Language

The Korean language is an isolate language and belongs to the Koreanic family of languages. It is the official language of North Korea, South Korea and People’s Republic of China (Yanbian and Changbai). It is also a recognized minority language in Russia (Primorsky Krai) and People’s Republic of China. Core Korean vocabulary consists of native Korean words. However a significant proportion of its vocabulary are Sino-Korean words, either directly boritemed from written Chinese or coined in Korea or Japan using Chinese characters. Apart from Sino-Korean loanwords, Korean vocabulary also boritems from many other languages of which English is the largest contributor.
